Different bookmakers and countries quote the same price in different formats. Type odds into any box above — fractional (6/4), decimal (2.50) or American (+150) — and the converter fills in the others instantly, together with the implied probability, the Hong Kong, Malay and Indonesian equivalents and the profit on a £10 stake. No sign-up needed.
The main odds formats
- Fractional (UK and Ireland): profit relative to stake. 6/4 means £6 profit for every £4 staked, so a £10 bet at 6/4 returns £25: £15 profit plus your £10 back. Fractional prices are what most UK bookmakers and betting shops show.
- Decimal (Europe, Australia and the exchanges): the total return per £1 staked, stake included. 2.50 returns £2.50 for every £1. Betting exchanges such as Betfair use decimal odds.
- American (moneyline): +150 means £150 profit on a £100 stake; −200 means you stake £200 to win £100.
- Implied probability: the chance the price suggests, 100 ÷ decimal odds. Decimal 2.50 implies a 40% chance.
Odds-on, odds-against and evens
Evens (1/1, decimal 2.00, American +100) doubles your money: a winning £10 bet returns £20. A price shorter than evens is odds-on: 1/2 (decimal 1.50) pays just £5 profit on £10, because the bookmaker rates the outcome more likely than not (66.7%). A price longer than evens is odds-against: 3/1 (decimal 4.00) pays £30 profit on £10 and implies 25%. You will sometimes see odds-on prices written the other way round, as in "2/1 on", which means 1/2.
Odds and implied probability
Implied probability is the chance the odds suggest, calculated as 100 ÷ decimal odds. Comparing implied probability with your own estimate is the core of finding value — see our value betting guide. How to convert odds by hand
- Fractional to decimal: divide the first number by the second and add 1. 6/4 is 6 ÷ 4 + 1 = 2.50; 1/2 is 1.50.
- Decimal to fractional: subtract 1 and turn what is left into a fraction. 2.50 leaves 1.50, which is 3/2; 1.80 leaves 0.80, which is 4/5. Bookmakers round awkward results to the nearest standard price, so 2.62 is shown as 13/8.
- Decimal to American: from 2.00 up, (decimal − 1) × 100, so 2.50 is +150. Below 2.00, −100 ÷ (decimal − 1), so 1.50 is −200.
- American to decimal: for positive odds, divide by 100 and add 1 (+150 is 2.50); for negative odds, divide 100 by the number and add 1 (−200 is 1.50).
- Odds to probability: 100 ÷ decimal odds, or for a fractional price, the second number ÷ (first + second) × 100. 6/4 is 4 ÷ 10 = 40%.
Hong Kong, Malay and Indonesian odds
Asian bookmakers quote three more formats, all built on the profit per 1 staked:
- Hong Kong: decimal minus 1, so 2.50 is 1.50 and 1.80 is 0.80.
- Malay: the Hong Kong figure up to 1.00; above that it turns negative (−1 ÷ Hong Kong), so 2.50 is −0.67.
- Indonesian: the mirror image — the Hong Kong figure from 1.00 up, and −1 ÷ Hong Kong below it, so 1.80 is −1.25.
| Decimal | Hong Kong | Malay | Indonesian |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.50 | 0.50 | 0.50 | -2.00 |
| 1.80 | 0.80 | 0.80 | -1.25 |
| 2.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 |
| 2.50 | 1.50 | -0.67 | 1.50 |
| 4.00 | 3.00 | -0.33 | 3.00 |
Bookmaker margin (overround)
Add up the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market and the total comes to more than 100%. The excess is the bookmaker's overround, and it is built into every price you are offered. Take a match priced 2.10 home, 3.40 draw and 3.60 away. The implied probabilities are 47.6%, 29.4%, 27.8%, which add up to 104.8%. On a balanced book the bookmaker keeps 4.6% of everything staked (1 − 1 ÷ 1.048). Take the margin out and the fair prices are 2.20, 3.56, 3.77.
Use the margin calculator above to check any two- or three-way market. A lower margin means more of each price is value rather than the bookmaker's cut, which is why exchange and low-margin prices often beat the high street.
Fractional to decimal odds conversion table (1/100 to 1000/1)
Every standard UK fractional price, from 1/100 odds-on to 1000/1, with its decimal, American and implied-probability equivalents. Decimal odds are 1 + (numerator ÷ denominator); implied probability is 100 ÷ decimal odds. For any price not listed, type it into the converter above.
