The headline
Across 33,392 finished games in our 24 core leagues since 2022-23, the home team won 57.9% of the time.
That average hides a huge range. Hosts win 63.3% of games in Greece's Basket League and only 51.8% in Japan's B.League. The NBA, at 55.5%, sits close to the bottom. The EuroLeague, at 62.6%, sits close to the top.
If you carry an NBA sense of home court over to European basketball, you will underrate it. If you carry a European sense over to Japan, you will badly overrate it. Here is the whole picture.

The NBA vs Europe gap
Seven percentage points of win rate separate the EuroLeague from the NBA. In points it is +3.7 against +2.1, and the EuroLeague plays eight fewer minutes a game, so the gap is bigger than it looks.
Our data shows the gap but cannot prove why. These are the likely reasons, offered as ideas rather than findings:
- Atmosphere and travel. European crowds are close to the court and famously loud, and EuroLeague trips cross countries midweek. NBA arenas are bigger, and NBA teams travel in comfort.
- Quality gaps. Domestic European leagues often have a few strong clubs and a long tail. Big clubs win at home and the win rate rises.
- Game length. Fewer minutes means a home-crowd run of a few points is a larger share of the game.
The NBA's shrinking lean
The NBA home margin has fallen in every full season in our data: 2.5, 2.2, 2.0 and 1.7 points. Home wins went from 57.2% in 2022-23 to 55.4% in 2025-26.
The EuroLeague margin has also come down, from 4.4 to 3.5, but its home win rate has held between 61.8% and 64.7%.
This season, hosts have won just 53.0% of 83 EuroLeague games, which is a striking number in a small sample. We dig into it in our EuroLeague 2026-27 post. See also the NBA 2026-27 post.
Japan and Korea: almost no home court
B.League hosts win 51.8% and by just 0.6 points, on 3,146 games, so this is no sample-size accident. Korea's KBL is next at 54.5%. The reason isn't in our data, though shorter travel in a compact country may be part of it.
It is also a good warning about borrowing rules of thumb. "Home team plus three points" would be a poor assumption in both leagues.
How this feeds the predictions
Sage learns each league's home value separately and updates it slowly with every game. That is why Basketball Champions League favourites and Lega A favourites can look different even with similar team ratings.
One caution on reading this table. A home win rate mixes home court with team strength. Real Madrid winning 83% at home over three seasons is mostly Real Madrid being very good. Over a whole league that evens out, because every team plays home and away, so league-level rates are a fair guide. Single-team rates are not.

Frequently asked questions
What is home advantage in basketball? The extra chance a team has of winning because it is at home. Across our 24 leagues hosts win 57.9% of games, against the 50% you would see with no home effect.
Which league has the biggest home advantage? Greece's Basket League at 63.3%, then the EuroLeague at 62.6%.
Which league has the smallest? Japan's B.League, at 51.8% and 0.6 points a game.
Is NBA home-court advantage declining? In our data, yes. The home margin fell in each full season from 2.5 points in 2022-23 to 1.7 in 2025-26.
Does this mean I should back home teams in Europe? No. Bookmakers already know all of this and it is in their prices. It helps you read a win chance properly, nothing more.
